Social Marketing Podcast #2: To Spam Or Not To Spam?

June 15th, 2008

This episode of the Social Marketing Dominator Podcast is all about Spam.

I’ve seen a growing amount of spam in online social media:

Social bookmarking sites are being overrun with thousands of posts with spammy sites offering no real value. Social media sites are being hit too.  People wanting to increase traffic are filling these sites with content only for 2 purposes: 1 – To scream “BUY MY STUFF” or 2 – To grab links to junk websites. Social networking sites like myspace & Facebook have taken aggressive measures to prevent people from doing automated mass friend adding and blasting huge volumes of messages.

There’s no question that these kind of blackhat spam tactics can really work in the short term, but what are the long term consequences? Should you engage in Social Marketing spam?  Find out in this episode of the Social Marketing Domination Podcast. Press the play button below to listen, or subscribe to my iTunes channel:

Social Bookmarking Domination, Episode Number 1: Introduction

June 8th, 2008

Here’s Episode Number One!

I’ve officially launched my own podcast to chronicle my experiment and provide another channel for me to teach everyone who subscribes here at Social Dominator.

You’ll be able to listen in and here my audio PodCast using the controls below. Soon you’ll  be able to subscribe through iTunes and automatically listen in anytime you want through your iPod.  Be sure to keep listening because its through a future PodCast Ill even teach you exactly how to set up a PodCast of your own.

[display_podcast]

*** (added 6/9)I’ve had some questions come up about the podcast and my claim that the site has rocketed to an 160,000 (roughly) Alexa rating. To see this statistic you need to look at the traffic details page:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/socialdominator.com

Look at the 1-week statistic.  The overall Alexa rating you see on the main page is a rolling average over the previous 90 days.  90 days ago the site didn’t even exist and then when it started out it was at something crazy like a 10,000,000 rating.  So to see what a site is actually doing at this very moment you need to look at the weekly or daily stat.

New PodCast For Social Networking & Bookmarking Domination

I’ll also be setting up an iTunes version so you can download it right from iTunes and listen to each episode right on your iPod.

Each episode will cover the progres of my experiment as well as teach you some of the steps I used to pull it all off. I’ll even teach you how to create a Podcast of your own… just like this one!

Each episode will feature a music intro courtesy of: Accelerated Ideas

Social Marketing Traffic Experiment Updated Results Video

May 29th, 2008

It’s time for an update to my experiment here to see if I can use social marketing and social bookmarking to launch a brand new site into the web traffic stratosphere. I’ll be doing this with high speed SEO, social networking, social bookmarking & video marketing.  If you have not seen my first YouTube video on social bookmarking explaining my experiment you should watch it by clicking here.  You can also see my first post explaining the whole live social bookmarking online experiment by clicking here.

Here’s my latest YouTube video:

My Timing Could Have Been Better

One of the things I’ve run into this week is extremely bad timing.  This whole project came down at the last minute so I couldn’t really plan when I was going to do it.  Unfortunately, the holiday weekend here in the US really messed up my timing.  I really wanted to keep working on this through the 3 day weekend, but family comes first.  So instead I had some fun with my wife and my boys. We went and saw Indiana Jones and did some other fun stuff.  Have you seen it yet?

Anyway… on to more serious stuff: I’m back on the project and able to start promoting the site again.

SEO Progress So Far:

So far I’ve been setting up profiles at the major social networking sites, bookmarking & pinging my profiles (if you don’t know what pinging is be sure to watch the video above) and adding friends at the sites like FaceBook & MySpace.

My subscriber list is starting to take off and incoming traffic is building.  I’m getting traffic coming from Google as well as dozens of other sites.

Another key point has been my video promotion. Always make sure you attract links to your videos (or at least your profile on the video sites).  This REALLY helps.  I also have been promoting my videos on the social networking sites and in my profiles.

I’m not going to get into too many specifics quite yet, but at the end of this experiment anyone signed up to this site will get all the inside data.  I’ll give you EVERYTHING.  Im even considering throwing in some of my scripts or WordPress plug-ins that my programmers made for me.

As always, I really want to hear from you!  Comment below and tell me what you think of my experiment or my results.  Ask me anything.  I’ll do my best to answer here.

Social Marketing: I Love Social Media, Social Bookmarking & Social Networking!

May 22nd, 2008

OK, so far… so good!  It’s been only a few days since I set up the website and recorded my youtube video.  In my first post about: Social bookmarking domination I explain it pretty well. I just registered a brand new site a few days ago and am publicly going to show the world how I get the site flooded with traffic and make it profitable quickly. If you’re new to the site you should go read that first post and follow along in order. If you want you can also check out my video explaining everything.

I really started my promotion of this site on Sunday night or Monday morning. So at this point I’ll call it 3 days of work on promotion.  What do I have to show for it?  Let’s see:

  1. This blog is now indexed in Google & bringing traffic from Google search engine results.
  2. My social networking profiles are beginning to get indexed & bringing this site traffic.
  3. My Social bookmarking pages are starting to get indexed & bring traffic.
  4. People are talking about this site on social media sites.
  5. People are beginning to notice this blog & someone even wrote a blog post about my launch.
  6. My YouTube video is getting many views and is bringing traffic to the blog.
  7. My video is also on many of other video websites promoting the launch. These pages are also indexed in Google & getting traffic.
  8. There are now 49 51 subscribers to my email list (I know it’s not 1,000’s but it’s a good start for 3 days)
  9. FeedBurner says that people are starting to subscribe to my blog directly through RSS (Really Simple Syndication: A technology that lets you share your blog posts) NEWSBREAK: Just since writing this I’m already up to 134 RSS subscribers on FeedBurner!
  10. I’m starting to get friends and followers at the various social networking sites. (If you are a member of any of the sites listed in my site down on the below right hand side… go add me as a friend so you can watch what I’m doing over there)

I’m just getting started… there’s a lot more to come!

So far I’m just laying the groundwork. Setting up profiles at many social networking & social media websites.  I’ve made a few bookmarks, but mostly just have been setting up the profiles and working on getting them indexed.  If you are a member I’ll be recording additional videos and writing up exactly what I did & how I did it.  You’re going to get everything, all my resources and any special “secret” tweaks I do to pull it all together.

So make sure you subscribe at the top right of the SocialDominator.com site.  Just fill in your name & email address then hit submit.  Do it now before you forget 🙂 you don’t want to miss out on all the behind the scenes data!
